The £2 Sudocrem I Swear By To Help Acne

My skin has been problematic ever since I hit puberty. I get a lot of blemishes, redness and dry skin. Over the last year I have been actively working to improve my skin and I have seen a massive improvement. I know a lot of people struggle with their skin, personally it affects my confidence a lot, so I want to share everything that helps me. I’ve vowed to myself that 2018 is the year that I clear my skin. Prepare for a very wordy post because I wanted to really explain how the product works and give you a proper in depth review as it is something I am genuinely passionate about. The product I started using that has made a massive difference that I’m talking about today is SUDOCREM!

How Sudocrem has helped my Acne

In my eyes, Sudocrem has always been a product for babies, wether you use it on their cuts or nappy rashes etc. I’ve always seen my sisters use it on my nephews and never really thought about using it on myself as an adult. It wasn’t until I’d read a few posts of other bloggers using it that I decided to give it a go. It has changed my life. I’d already planned this review as I’ve been using it for a little while now and even featured it in my December favourites HERE. Then I was contacted about Sudocrem just before I wrote this and asked if I’d like a sample, I replied saying I already had a tub and was loving it so I didn’t think they’d want to send me a sample anymore but they still did which was very kind! So even though I was sent a tube do not think I am being biased as skin care is so important to me and I always aim to be honest with my opinions on my blog.

What is Sudocrem?

Sudocrem is an antiseptic healing cream that is used for the treatment of: Nappy rash, Eczema, Surface wounds, sunburn, minor burns, acne, bed sores and chilblains. It also creates a protective barrier which means no dirt will get to your spots preventing infection and further irritation. They claim: It can be used as a gentle face mask, to treat pesky spots or to soothe dry patches of skin.

The active properties of Sudocrem as stated on Boots website are:

  • Hypoallergenic lanolin, to help provide emollient properties
  • zinc oxide is an astringent which reduces the loss of tissue fluid
  • Benzyl benzoate and benzyl cinnamate are amongst the ingredients of Peru Balsam, recognised for its healing properties
  • Benzyl alcohol is a weak local anaesthetic which acts to ease localised pain and irritation. It also acts as a disinfectant/antibacterial agent and is responsible for protection against common bacterial contaminants

How I use it

Every night after I’ve cleansed my face and done my skin care routine, I dab Sudocrem on any blemishes, redness, spots that need healing and I go to sleep. I’m not going to lie to you, your pillow does get messy! You will need to change the cover more often but it’s worth it. You may also look a bit strange with white dollops all over your face. I will say it can feel a little strange at first having lumps of cream on your face but you get used to it. I do find it melts quite quickly at the warmth of your skin too but this doesn’t bother me. I’d say the scent is pretty standard, it just smells like a neutral antiseptic to me, to be honest I’m very bad at describing smells so please forgive me! What I’m trying to say is I don’t find it unpleasant, it’s not fragranced which I love.I personally feel like putting products on your face that have added fragrance is bad for your skin, it’s like rubbing perfume on your face?

How Sudocrem has helped my Acne

How it’s helped my skin

Without sounding grim, it has healed popped spots OVERNIGHT?! I’m seriously amazed. I think it’s because it’s antiseptic it helps speed up the healing process. I’ve previously had a few spots under the skin that haven’t fully come out yet, 2 nights of putting Sudocrem on and they’re gone. Every time I put the cream on my face I wake up with visibly reduced redness and it boosts my confidence a little bit. Can you tell how much I love it yet? My one negative point I would say is that it does tend to dry out my blemishes a bit. I’m not sure if this is helping the healing process but I like to use a heavier moisturiser in the day so I don’t have dry skin.

How Sudocrem has helped my acne.

So apart from the cream covered pillowcase and a little bit of dryness in the morning, Sudocrem is a Holy Grail product for me. How great that it comes in a little tube as well? Makes carrying it in my wash bag a lot easier than lugging a big tub around! So now I keep the tub by my bedside and the tube in my wash bag. If you suffer with a lot of redness or blemishes I can’t recommend this enough. It’s £3 for a 125g tub and £1.99 for the 30g tube, which makes it super affordable. I think I love this product so much because it’s literally an antiseptic cream. I know in my mind that it’s healing my skin and doing it good. When I got emailed about Sudocrem they also stated that you can use it as a mask which I am yet to do but is something to try. To be honest my skin is so bad I pretty much coat my entire face in it anyway!

I used to use sudocrem for my spots all the time but felt it dried me out too much as I have combination/oily skin but some products can tend to make me flake and this did. Although it does work wonders so not anything a really hydrating moisturiser can fix! I swear by the dermalpgica essential cleansing solution, that’s helped me clear up my acne!

Love this post, so detailed and honest! You persuaded me the other week to get some sudocrem and i did I just keep forgetting to use it! My aim next week is to use it at least 3 times. It seems my spots are all now just small red marks on my face so I’m hoping this might help them disappear? We’ll have to wait and see! Fab post Clare.

I use Sudocrem quite a bit and my Mum swears by it. It does what is says on the label, it’s great for most skin problems. It smells so nice too. The only downside for me is that it makes a mess if you get it on clothing – it can be a pain to get off some fabrics.

Yeah it can be a bit messy which is a shame 🙁 x

  11. January 21, 2018 / 11:29 pm

Sudocrem is amazing i used it alot in my teens, always got rid of spots… my parents & siblings would laugh at me because of the white dollops on my face but that didn’t bother me lol. It’s fab for redness which I used to get alot too! It’s always worked wonders. It’s also my go-to cream for the kids, THE best nappy cream, the rest I find really greasy and to be honest make no difference but a night of sudocrem and there bottoms are clear! Haha 🌹 fab review, thanks for sharing x

I’ve been using this on my spots since I was a teenager. As I got older and more sophisticated (lol) I branched out into fancier creams which never gave the same result. So I dumped them a few years back and went back to this 👍

  21. January 26, 2018 / 7:12 pm

I have acne-prone skin, but I have never heard of this product before! I’ll have to check it out!
