Marc Jacobs Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Review | Influenster voxbox
Hey lovelies! I was very lucky and kindly got sent a voxbox from influenster to review! You might have seen these around the blogosphere a lot lately. Just to briefly explain, Influenster is a platform for influencers to share reviews of products and answer questionnaires on items. The more you review and answer, the more likely you are to get sent a ‘voxbox’ which are products to review.
Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon
So the products I received were 2 Highliner Matte Gel eye crayons by Marc Jacobs. They’ve just released 12 new shades in a new matte formula.
“Introducing Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon. Matte-not-flat. Extreme colour. Waterproof. Experience the same amazing glide, instant colour payoff and waterproof wear of award-winning Highliner Gel Eye Crayon, now in a bold matte formula. Intensified by super-rich pigment, this malleable gel eyeliner glides on smoothly for precise application, then sets in place for all-day, 12-hour wear.”
I got the shades (Pop)ular and Pink of me. (Pop)ular is a darker bright pink colour and Pink of me is a pale light pink colour.
I’m going to get straight to the point here and just say these eyeliners are amazing! They are so creamy and glide on like a dream. The Highliners are highly pigmented and their staying power is incredible. They claim to be waterproof and they live up to that name too, as when I swatched them on my hand, the darker shade (Pop)ular wouldn’t budge with any amount of scrubbing until I used my Primark Micellar water. They’re great to smudge out too to create a more smokey look if that is something you would like to do with them before they fully set, so you do get a bit of play time.
Another thing I really love about these Highliner eye crayons is that they twist, which means no need for sharpening when on the go! HOWEVER when researching the eyeliners to find out a little more information I discovered that there is actually a little mini hidden sharpener in the bottom! I’ve not seen anyone else mention this yet so thought it was great to share. It’s so handy to have as even though it does twist up it can get blunt easily, I love having a sharp point to my eyelinersso I can create flicks with ease.
My one negative point about these eyeliners would have to be the cost. The Highliner’s cost £20 each, I normally don’t like spending too much money on eyeliners so this price can be a little steep. However for a high end brand and for the quality of the eyeliner I think these are a great investment. Especially if you were to purchase a shade you would use everyday such as Black or Brown. Next time I need to buy a quality black eyeliner I would definitely get this one as the pigmentation and long lasting wear is just incredible and I know I would get enough use out of
Swatches: (Pop)ular left. Pink of me right.
So I had a play around with the Highliner’s and created 2 simple looks to fully test them to their potential and I thought it would be fun to share some looks too.
So the first look was just a simple pink wing. A trick I love doing to get the perfect flick is to stick a small strip of tape across my eye, draw the line and then peel the tape off to reveal a sharp flick. I used the darker pink (Pop)ular for the wing and the lighter shade Pink of me on the waterline to make my eyes pop. I also put a little highlighter on the inner corner of my eye to brighten the look.
This look was a bit more experimental and a bit of fun. I started by using the shade (Pop)ular to line my eyes and created a flick using the tape trick. Then starting from the inner corner I slowly followed the crease of my eye and created another flick parallel to the lower one. I also smudged it on my lower lash line and waterline to bring it all together. Another tip is to use a cotton bud to clean up the lines and make it look clean.
I hope you enjoyed this review and the little looks I created.
