How I cleared my acne in a week using 4 affordable products
Hey everyone, today I’m sharing the 4 product acne skincare routine that has LITERALLY cleared up 90% of my acne within 7 days! This was also 7 days before an exam I was stressed out for so it just proves how well this routine worked for me.
My Acne prone skin:
Just a little background information so you know what skin type I have and how this has helped me. I started getting spots like most teenagers when I was going through hormones and they just never seemed to go away. I used to get acne on my chest and back too which I hated. Thankfully I went on the pill and that seemed to clear it all up! Fast forward to now, I’m 22 and still have very acne prone skin on my face. It’s always on the normal to dry side and never oily which was my issue. Most acne product are designed to help with oily skin which I don’t have so I struggled to find good products that would help my skin. ALL skin is different. This routine worked for me and I’m hoping it will help some of you, however it might not work for you, always remember you need to find what works for you.
I’ve been trying numerous products and changing up my routine for a few years now but the last year I’ve put alot of research and effort into what products I’m using. I was loving Sudocrem for a while too (I spoke about how It helped my acne here). I am just so happy to have found something that actually works and seeing visible results!
I’m breaking down the 4 product acne skincare routine into 4 steps. These are: Cleanse, Exfoliate, Treat and Moisturise.
The first step in this routine is cleansing with the Bioré Deep pore charcoal cleanser. I’ve actually used this cleanser for a year and a half, recommended it to many and written a full review on it here. To sum it up: it removes makeup, clears dirt, shrinks pores and removes excess oil! It ticks all the boxes without being drying to my skin and the best part is it’s CHEAP. I buy this from supermarkets or drugstores for £5 and I have seen it on offer on amazon before for £2.50.
Next I use a chemical exfoliator and it’s the Glycolic Acid 7% toning solution by The Ordinary. One thing I was lacking in my skincare routine for a long time was an exfoliator, it’s so important as it gets rid of dead skin cells plugging your pores and trapping bacteria. I like using this one as it’s chemical rather than scrubbing little beads over my face using a physical exfoliator! I’ve used this solidly every night for a few months now and have noticed such a difference in my skin, it evens skin surface, removes impurities you wouldn’t realise you still had, and leaves you with a nice glow!
Next I like to use The Ordinary Salicylic acid 2%. This ingredient is known for its bacteria fighting properties and is used in many acne products. When I first got this I was putting it pretty much all over my face and found that it completely broke me out but I believe it was my skin purging. I decided to try it again and now i just put it on any blemishes I have at night. I wake up the next day and my acne is visibly reduced! This feels like it properly treats my acne.
Finally one of, if not the most important skincare product is the moisturiser! I have been using the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo. I completely forgot I owned this for some reason (probably because I own SO much skincare… I’m not ashamed) and so was thrilled when I found it again recently. I even spoke about it here and here. I think this product is one of the main reasons my acne has cleared up. It treats acne by containing the active ingredient Salicylic acid and it helps regulate your oil production. It’s an all round great moisturiser for my dry skin too and leaves my skin feeling super soft.
I really hope this was helpful for you, Acne is by far my biggest confidence issue to the point I will spend an entire day just thinking about my skin constantly. So I know how much it can get some people down, I need to remind myself that my skin does not define me but it’s nice to find ways to clear it up, especially when it can sometimes be very painful! The next step for me is to help reduce the scarring, I’d love any advice on that if you have any, you can comment below or send me a message on Twitter or Instagram.
I also have a few other tips and habits that help to prevent acne that I will be sharing in a blog post soon! Do you have any tips for acne? Comment them below I’d love to hear!
