Adding a WordPress follow button
One of the things most people want to gain when you’re blogging is followers. It means readers enjoy your content and want to return to it. I find it much easier to follow people when they have a WordPress follow button that I can just click, rather than having to type in their blog address to the reader on WordPress.
I’m going to show you exactly how to add a WordPress follow button to your blog in 2 steps. It is really simple to do. The first thing you need to note is that you must have the Jetpack plugin enabled.
Step 1 – Generate the code
The first thing you’re going to need to do is to actually create the button by generating the code. You do this by going to this WordPress page.
You will come to a page that will show this:
Next, you put in your blog URL. So here I input ‘www.clayaa.com’. Then you can tick whether or not you want to show the follower count and blog name as well as the language. These options are completely up to you what you choose. I ticked both as I wanted to show both:
After you click ‘generate’ it shows you a preview of what the button would look like. This is what my button would look like. Once you are happy with it, select and copy the code below it.
Step 2 – Add Widget to your blog
Now go to your blog and then Appearance > Widgets > Custom HTML.
Choose where you want to add the widget (such as sidebar, footer etc) and paste the HTML code from before into the ‘content’ bit. Click ‘Save’ and you are done. Simple as that! You can add a title too if you want, such as ‘Follow me on WordPress’ like I have done here.
You will then see the button active on your blog like this:
